Many people ask us about training plans and coaching.  Well in fact they are two different things!  A training plan is used by coaches or self coached athletes to guide their training to achieve specific goals or outcomes, whereas coaching provides some desired level of facilitation and guidance depending on the athletes needs and circumstances.  In regard to coaching and self-coaching, there are a few options and approaches, some of these include:

  • Train and learn with a club and mates (the cheapest).  Club sessions apart form a small swim fee are often free and then the odd gold coin donation.
  • Pay for a web training plan (pretty cheap $50- $250) but does not provide for your specific needs.
  • Pay for a "customised" plan ($300-$600) and then pay per workout (this is how many coaches operate, although we find they are a standard plan with a few tweeks so are really not  that personalised.
  • Pay-for-service basis i.e. monthly fee - this is how we operate (from $50 p/week upwards (incl GST) min 6 months).  However the difference is it focuses on your specific skills profile and is backed up by objective testing and measurement - see inclusions below.

We prefer to work with athletes using an annual training plan with interim goals and then have a tailored training plan to support your targets and objectives.  I recommend changes to this on a weekly/fortnightly basis depending on progress, lifestyle, family/work commitments and one-on-one discussions (depending on package level).  To me imparting knowledge and being an objective 'sounding board' and advisor is the most effective approach as a coach.

We guarantee results (barring injury, sickness and slackness!) and use objective measurement techniques including run and bike threshold measurement and power measurement on the bike (depending on package level).  We utilise a number of training tools that enhance the quality of our programs including, threshold training profiling, stress scores, skills analysis and the Borg perceived exertion scale (RPE) as well as critical power establishment.  Programs follow a systematic process including annual planning and micro and macro cycles with a heavy focus on lifestyle adjustments. Communication is both email and call based with training programs tailored to your individual needs.  Importantly though this is supplemented by one-on-one meetings/communication.

 Other inclusions

Bike fit analysis if required.

Training is logged in software that we can also analyse and track.  Other than that, the athlete is able to join in any sessions around town that suit their program.  Flexibility like this is important.

The athletes we provide coaching services to will effectively be part of the "XTR Tri Academy" during that period, which is reserved for individuals under the coaching program and those under a structured sponsorship arrangement.

Athletes receive specific and very good product discounts on most triathlon apparel and equipment items at our XTR Multisports retail concept, which would be hard to find elsewhere!

There are a number of tailored package levels available.  If you require any additional details please contact us at XTR Multisports on (08) 9300 1190 or via info@xtrmultisports.com.au
